Crime in Montreal: A Dashboard on all the Break-ins
Underwriting commercial or personal perils greatly benefits from a wider understanding of crime driving factors and from visibility into the historical crime rates of any given underwriting territory. Also, insurers and potential policy holders can also benefit from smaller and more precise risk assessment when it comes to rating perils.
This dashboard and many others created by InEdge can be of precious help to Underwriters in assessing risk.
About the creation of this dashboard
The City of Montreal Police Service (SPVM), through the City of Montreal Open Data portal, has made available to the general public a set of data on break-ins in Montreal from January 2015 to March 2016. Our Analytics Advisors had some fun in modelling the data and creating a dynamic visual representation in order to see at a glance the “Hot” areas of the City of Montreal, crime-wise that is.
With this set of data, you can only find at this time the information pertaining to break-ins. However, the SPVM will make available other types of events on a continual basis. We will then be able to sort the data and evolve our dashboard at the same rate as the new information will be made available.
Keep watching this space!
